Shirt Stay Manufacturer Switches Factory to Face Masks for First-Responders

North Carolina-based company, Shirt Stay Plus, has changed direction in business, assisting in the fight against COVID-19 by switching their factories over to manufacturing face masks for police, military, and first-responders.

Shirt Stay Plus, a business that predominantly manufactures and sells USA-made shirt stays, is addressing the COVID-19 crisis that is affecting all Americans. In order to help first responders who are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19, they have switched their factory production from its core product line of shirt stays to manufacturing cloth face masks instead. These face masks are designed to be worn by police, firefighters, and first-responders to help blunt the spread of COVID-19 throughout the country.

Assisting those on the front lines
Shirt Stay Plus has provided elastic shirt stays for military, law enforcement, and first responders for over a decade and, now, they aim to help that same market stay safe while facing the new threat of COVID-19. The manufacturer’s new masks consist of 3 layers of tight-weave cotton, pleated to allow them to expand to a better fit with the help of the wide elastic ear loops.

Aside from selling the masks on their website, Shirt Stay Plus has pledged to donate 2,000 masks to first responders and essential law enforcement and firefighting staff immediately. This is in addition to matching donations, where the firm donates one mask for every pack purchased at full price. As such, the company is able to better scale its donations.

“By selling masks to the general public, we’re actually able to donate more masks than if we focused on donations exclusively. This is because we’re able to use the proceeds from the sales to essentially subsidize our donation production – to buy for more raw materials and reach greater economies of scale than we can afford with a donation-only model,” says Jon Payne, one of the managing partners of Shirt Stay Plus.
